Yes, but only if you have the proper documentation and rights to use the sampled material.
What Is Sampling?
Sampling is the act of taking material from a previously existing sound recording and incorporating it into an entirely new sound recording. Samples can range from tiny fragments of audio to longer musical sections, such as a melody or drum break. Sampling is generally not allowed without written clearance from the rights holder.
Documentation and Clearance
To release music with samples, you must provide proof that you have permission to use the sampled material. You can submit this documentation:
- Directly in the Uploader, or
- By submitting a Needs Documentation ticket through the Support portal in your Too Lost account.
Important Notes
- Cover song licenses cannot be used as documentation for samples. Each sample requires its own specific clearance or license.
- Clearance is possible, but it can be difficult and expensive, especially for smaller artists.
- Distributing songs with unauthorized samples can result in legal action. Always make sure you have the rights or clearances for every sample in your release.
